How UIS Rolling Road helped Anglian Water & Balfour Beatty with emergency works.
UIS provided their Rolling Road temporary trackway boards to an Anglian Water & Balfour Beatty joint venture site in Milton Keynes. The requirement from the customer was urgent, with it being a high-profile scheme due to a recent flooding of the area following a recently discovered leak & sinkhole at a reservoir. These durable, heavy-duty boards – designed for easy transport and quick installation – proved to be the ideal answer to a challenging worksite.
Key Points:
· UIS Rolling Road Midi & Maxi boards were deployed throughout to create a stable surface over boggy, uneven and ‘dangerous’ ground.
· The modular design allowed for adaption to uneven and undulating ground, including steep banking with incline / declines either side.
· The client was highly impressed with the speed UIS reacted to this emergency requirement, as well as the performance of the Rolling Road system on what they described as ‘extremely challenging environment’.
Issue:
Following sustained heavy rainfall, Anglian Water identified a leak & a sinkhole at the Ashland Lakes balancing reservoir, Milton Keynes.
To fix the issue, their teams are going to be required to insert a fibreglass liner by using an ultraviolet curing technique, which will effectively create a new internal pipe within the existing one.
However, due to the heavy rainfall, the surrounding areas to where the teams and equipment would need to be situated meant the ground was extremely boggy, uneven and dangerous.
Solution:
To help deliver these repairs, UIS provided two versions of their Rolling Road ground protection boards. The Midi version was implemented across 85% of the scheme, ensuring the teams safety and stability on the soft and undulating ground throughout.
The Maxi version was positioned in the areas deemed high risk, creating a robust and stable platform for large plant and machinery to work from.
Accomplishment:
Emergency repairs are always challenging, but UIS helped provide both Anglian Water and Balfour Beatty a stable, secure and robust platform for their teams to take decisive action to address a leak & sinkhole.
With the works completed in just under 2 weeks, these essential repairs will make sure the reservoir can continue to flow safely into the local rivers, preventing flooding in the surrounding area.
Conclusion:
The client was delighted with how the UIS Rolling Road performed on this scheme, and have started the process of planning works throughout 2025 & 2026 for this to be used in different sectors of the Balfour Beatty business, giving UIS further testament that the Rolling Road is the ultimate temporary trackway solution on the market right now!
