Category
Rehabilitation and repair of gravity pipes.
Application
Renovation and repair of sewer and drainage laterals that connect from properties to the main sewer network etc. Technologies available are applicable to all common lateral diameters.
Limitations include the availability of access to the lateral which may require the use of specialist equipment that can operate remotely inside of the main pipeline.
Benefits
A main benefit of Lateral Repair is the reduction of inflow of ground water into the main sewer thereby reducing the workload on the downstream treatment plant. It can also extend the useful working life of the lateral considerably and trenchless options also reduce the impact of undertaking such repairs on the property owner.
Technology Description
Many of the techniques used in lateral repairs are similar to those found under the Lining Techniques and Localised Repair techniques. They are used however at much smaller diameters and usually over shorter distances. These include Cleaning, Patch Repairs, CIPP lining, Sprayed Lining, Lateral Connection Sealing/Top Hat Installation.
