Digital Twin Monitoring During Urban Piling Works
Environmental Techniques, working with Good Friday Robotics, delivered an innovative digital asset monitoring solution for the Belfast Stormwater Tunnel during piling works for the Kainos development in Belfast. Using an underground drone equipped with LiDAR, surveys were completed before and after piling from Shaft 6, creating a 3 mm accurate digital baseline of the tunnel. Compared with traditional man-entry inspections requiring approximately 12 personnel, weeks of mobilisation and multiple confined space entries, the drone required only two operators and completed surveys in 5–10 minutes. The technology confirmed no structural impact from the piling while creating a permanent digital record for future asset monitoring and comparison.

IES UTILITY SOLUTIONS / NORTHUMBRIAN WATER GROUP
Comprex Impulse Cleaning
Comprex® Impulse Cleaning is a patented trenchless pipe cleaning technology introduced to the UK by IES Utilities Group (IES). Using precisely controlled pulses of medical-grade air and water, it removes sediment, biofilm and mineral deposits while using up to 95% less water and no chemicals. Proven in Europe but new to the UK, this technology restores mains to near-new condition, without excavation and minimal customer disruption. It’s deployment in Saxmundham with Northumbrian Water Group (NWG) demonstrated its ability to resolve high risk water quality issues, extend asset life, reduce carbon, and provide a scalable, low-impact alternative to traditional methods.

Always In Supply (AiS)
Arlington Water’s AiS (Always in Supply) technology is transforming how underground water infrastructure works are delivered by maintaining customer water supply during planned and reactive interventions. Unlike traditional approaches relying on bottled water and bowsers, AiS uses intelligent, digitally controlled pumping to infuse potable water directly into isolated sections of network, keeping customers supplied at the tap. As an enabling technology for trenchless and low-disruption works, AiS reduces customer impact, improves resilience, supports vulnerable users, lowers logistics requirements and helps utilities complete essential underground interventions more safely, efficiently and sustainably.
