RELINE Advertorial Liner-integrated temperature measurement
Liner-integrated temperature measurement from RELINE
Real-time liner curing monitoring
Despite all the high precision with which curing of GRP liners in the old pipe can be monitored nowadays, one decisive influencing factor has so far remained difficult to gauge: temperature fluctuations along the length of the pipe, which can influence curing inside the liner. RELINE has taken up this challenge and now provides a solution that guarantees consistently high rehabilitation quality.
The liner-integrated temperature measurement enables continuous real-time monitoring of the curing process. “The section temperature cable is integrated between the resin-impregnated glass fiber layer and the outer film layers of the liner, recording measuring points every 5 seconds,” explains Dr. Rainer Wendel, Head of Research & Development at RELINE. “These measuring points provide precise temperature values from the outside of the resin-impregnated laminate in the liner.”
Even more precise measurement data for optimized curing
Liner-integrated temperature measurement offers decisive advantages compared to previous methods. Dielectric analysis (DEA), for example, requires a complex interpretation of the measured values to determine molecular mobility. Liner-integrated temperature measurement, on the other hand, delivers specific temperature data that provides the installation team with a direct, clearly understandable basis for decision-making on site – in real time.
Instead of the standard DEA approach of measuring individual points, a thorough recording is now conducted along the whole liner. For the first time, this makes it possible to adjust the curing parameters of the UV light chain to the ambient temperature dynamically. “This ensures that the best possible mechanical characteristics are achieved along the entire length of the liner,” explains Dr. Rainer Wendel, “which has a positive effect on the quality and service life of the rehabilitated pipe.”
The next stage of development is already underway: in the future, RELINE’s curing systems will take over temperature monitoring automatically to enable even more precise process control.
Field test and outlook
Following a successful initial field test validated using standard measurement technology, extensive data is now being collected from further applications. “Our aim is to lay at least 30 kilometers of liner integrated temperature measurement by the end of Q1 2026,” says the Head of Research & Development.
The aim is to gather information from projects with different nominal widths, wall thicknesses, profiles and temperature conditions. In addition, material samples are taken from the construction sites and examined using established test methods, including mechanical and chemical analyses. This broad database can then be used, for example, to define optimized processing windows for maximum curing quality.
“Liner-integrated temperature measurement represents a decisive advance in quality assurance,” emphasizes Dr. Rainer Wendel. “We are looking forward to an intensive exchange with our customers and the entire industry in the coming months.”
The standard Alphaliner 500G and 1800H products are already available in all variants with liner-integrated temperature measurement.
About RELINE
Founded in 2009, RelineEurope GmbH is headquartered in Rohrbach, Rhineland-Palatinate, where it manufactures pipe liners and the UV technology required to cure them on site. RELINE is the only manufacturer in the world to offer GRP liners and the associated equipment from a single source. Another special feature is the in-house production of glass fiber mats. The company is also active in Japan, China, and the USA and is proud to produce its own fiberglass in-house.
