The sustainable, chemical-free solution harnesses the power of controlled air-and-water pulses to efficiently remove biofilms, sediments, and hardened deposits from pipelines, all while using up to 90% less water than traditional flushing methods.
A Smarter, Sustainable Cleaning Solution
The Comprex® system delivers powerful cleaning pulses that reach velocities of up to 20 m/s, effectively removing even the most stubborn deposits without damaging infrastructure. Unlike conventional flushing, Comprex®:
Uses minimal water (less than 10% of a standard flush)
Generates minimal waste, much of which can be handled on-site
Works safely below pipe operating pressure, protecting network assets

Success in the Field: Northumbrian Water Pilot
In a recent pilot with Northumbrian Water, IES demonstrated the power and efficiency of Comprex® on a 12” (300 mm) cast iron main laid in 1922, notorious for high risk of discolouration.
Sampling was carried out every 10 minutes by the client’s independent water quality experts, confirming that Comprex® not only cleaned the soft deposits first but progressively tackled the deeper, metal-rich encrustations.
The results were exceptional:
2000m of pipe cleaned in under a day
Full removal of biofilms, manganese, iron, aluminium, and sediment
Turbidity reduced to a compliant level of 2.2 NTU
Delivery at a fraction of the cost and time of alternative methods
“The outcomes exceeded expectations,” said the client. A business case is now underway to roll out the solution across wider pipe networks in a 6–12-month programme.
