UV Lining Installation and Patch Repairs at Sewage Treatment Works

Project Scope:

Rehabilitation of a DN750 internal diameter concrete pipe.
Pipe length: 21 metres.
Gradient: 1:300.
Depth of access chamber: 3.9 metres.
Installation of two 750mm patch repairs to address water infiltration.
Thorough jetting and cleaning of the pipeline, including additional sections.
Installation of a UV-cured liner to restore structural integrity.

Challenges:

Water Infiltration: Addressing significant ingress at open joints.
Pipeline Preparation: Ensuring optimal cleanliness for the UV liner to bond effectively.
Access Limitations: Operating within the confines of a live sewage treatment works.
Overpumping Requirements: Maintaining a dry environment for safe and effective installation.

McBreen Enviro UK undertook the rehabilitation of a 21-metre DN750 concrete pipeline at an operational sewage treatment works. The pipeline suffered from significant water infiltration through open joints, requiring a robust solution to restore its structural integrity.

The sensitive location necessitated meticulous planning to overcome access challenges, coordinate overpumping operations, and ensure the pipeline was prepared to the highest standard for relining. By combining trenchless Patch Repair techniques, thorough cleaning, and UV liner installation, McBreen Enviro UK delivered a long-lasting solution while minimising site disruption.

Works Completed:

Patch Repairs: Installed two 750mm patches to stop water ingress and stabilise the pipe.
Pipe Cleaning: Utilised a Jet-Vac unit to thoroughly clean the pipeline and an additional section as requested by the client.
UV Liner Installation: Installed, inflated, and UV-cured a liner to ensure seamless, durable rehabilitation.
Overpumping Coordination: Worked with third-party teams to maintain dry conditions.
Project Management: Ensured efficient execution by addressing challenges in real-time and adhering to strict health and safety protocols.

Results:

The rehabilitation of the DN750 concrete pipeline successfully addressed the water infiltration issues and restored the pipe’s structural integrity.

The combined approach of patch repairs, jetting, and UV liner installation ensured a durable and long-term solution with minimal disruption to the sewage treatment works.

This project highlights McBreen Enviro UK’s expertise in trenchless technology and ability to deliver effective pipeline rehabilitation under challenging conditions.
