API Completes another successful pipe inspection project at a reservoir in the UK
API has been keeping busy in the UK & overseas this time in Newcastle under Lyme completing a water channel inspection using the PIPA Hydrocam™ system.
The Hydrocam™ system was deployed to inspect internal pipe condition and configuration after a suspected valve failure on a reservoir site.
After servicing valves along the pipe there was a severe reduction in water flow during their operation. The API team quickly identified 2 types of valve being butterfly and gate valves which the camera successfully navigated through, to then identify stone ingress and finally a total obstruction within the pipeline.
The API team then successfully located and mapped the pipeline for the client by tracing the camera systems cable above ground.
The Hydrocam™ system is an industry approved pressure rated camera that includes an ultra-responsive hydrophone for leak detection along with a cable trace feature.
The PIPA systems includes a chlorination housing and is approved for safe use in potable water networks. The camera sensors include ultra-bright COB lights, HD camera sensor with an ultra-responsive hydrophone.
All locations inspected have recorded invaluable pipe condition data which will be analysed by API and reports provided to the water utility company, all part of every under pressure pipe inspection survey.
Applications to the potable water sector
• Pressurised water pipe condition assessment tools
• Systems can be pushed or floated down pipelines
• Pipe material and lining validations
• Location of pipe defects, blockages and buried valves
• Investigate the source of dirty water prior to customer complaints (DWI)
• Asset management budget validation device
• Identify illegal connections (NRW)
• Accurate leak location in all pipe materials
• Mains tracing
Camera entry points
The PIPA camera/acoustic systems are designed for under pressure pipe inspections via many types of valves and pressure fittings installed directly on top or side of water mains.
PIPA Representative Fabio Orlandi: Another successful project completed by API this time for a council in the UK. Several Months have passed with the initial diagnosis being a faulty valve present, however by using the PIPA Hydrocam system the client was able to conclude that the pipeline was actually blocked and needed some rehabilitation.
More surveys are now being planned to map the water/drainage network for the client to update their GIS records.
Well done API team…
PIPA has developed the widest range of pressurised pipe inspection products commercially available in the world, and has worked with the majority of the UK water utility companies and a wide range of clients overseas.
