Amiblu Launches PROX

Amiblu Launches PROX: The Next Generation of Low-Carbon GRP Pipes

Klagenfurt, Austria, February 26, 2025 – Amiblu, a leading manufacturer of Glass fibre Reinforced Polyester (GRP) pipes, introduces Amiblu PROX, an advanced sustainable pipe solution designed to significantly reduce CO2 emissions across water and energy infrastructure projects.

With infrastructure responsible for a major share of global emissions, utilities and municipalities worldwide are under increasing pressure to decarbonise. Amiblu PROX provides a solution—reducing CO2 while delivering the same durability and reliability that define Amiblu GRP pipes.

A Smarter Approach to Reducing CO2

“Since raw materials and manufacturing contribute the most to a pipe’s carbon footprint, we focused on integrating sustainable alternatives, optimising transportation, and using renewable energy in production,” said Jane Haavaldsen, Director of Product Development and Innovation at Amiblu. “These measures, developed in close cooperation with raw material suppliers and customers, allow us to significantly reduce CO₂ emissions—helping both our customers meet sustainability goals and reducing environmental impact globally.”

Durable, Sustainable, and Transparent

Designed to serve generations to come, Amiblu PROX offers the same exceptional durability and reliability as standard Amiblu GRP pipes—with the added advantage of a reduced carbon footprint. Available as pipes and fittings in diameters up to 3200 mm, in all standard pressure and stiffness classes, it can be manufactured in both standard and custom lengths to suit various project needs.

To ensure transparency, the CO₂ footprint of Amiblu PROX is calculated using Amiblu Product Carbon Footprint declarations. These assessments, based on the ecoinvent 3.10 database and conducted using Umberto 11 software, adhere to the methodologies outlined in ISO 14044 and 14067.

40% Lower Emission Pipes in a Water Treatment Plant Project

Amiblu PROX has already been successfully implemented in the La Presa de Manises drinking water treatment plant expansion in Valencia, Spain, managed by Global Omnium. In this project, the use of PROX pipes resulted in a 40% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to standard Amiblu pipes. This reduction was achieved through a combination of alternative raw materials, optimised transportation logistics, and the use of renewable energy in manufacturing.

Global Omnium is the largest Spanish company that manages the complete water cycle in almost 350 towns and is certified as a sustainable purchasing company.

“Sustainability is at the core of Global Omnium’s mission, and reducing CO₂ emissions starts with the materials we use.”, says Elias Colom, Corporate Marketing Director at Global Omnium. “Working with Amiblu means installing high-quality, locally produced pipes that help us lower emissions, and preserve water. This aligns with our ISO 20400-certified procurement strategy and our commitment to a more sustainable water network in Spain.”

While CO2 savings vary by project, depending on specific supply chain factors and material sourcing, the Valencia case highlights the significant potential of Amiblu PROX to decarbonise water infrastructure.

Amiblu PROX: The Next Step Forward

Inspired by the Latin word proximo, meaning “next,” Amiblu PROX embodies our commitment to taking the next step in delivering sustainable water infrastructure. It reflects our proximity to global sustainability goals, our dedication to progress for the planet, and our promise to set a new benchmark for the industry.

Industry professionals can discover Amiblu PROX at the SMAGUA trade fair in Zaragoza, Spain (March 4-5, 2025) or visit www.amiblu.com/prox-pipes for more details.
