PAR EXCELLENCE
Two IMPREGLiners, with a combined weight of nearly 80 tons, were successfully installed in the Netherlands under challenging conditions—marking a major milestone in trenchless sewer rehabilitation. In this case, the use of light-curing pipe liners proved to be the ideal solution.
A Highly Demanding Construction Project
Two DN 1500 sewers had suffered extensive damage from hydrogen sulphide (H₂S) and required urgent rehabilitation. Situated beneath a heavily trafficked road, the renovation work had to be carried out exclusively at night to minimize disruption.
The planning phase was intensively supported by IMPREG GmbH’s expert team, led by Francis Clauss, Oliver Vorlop, and Roland Hahn. Working in close collaboration with long-standing partner Kumpen NV Renovatietechnieken (site manager Willem Bollen) and the city of Leiden, a detailed and strategic construction site plan was developed and executed.
Overcoming Installation Challenges
Trenchless sewer rehabilitation, combined with UV technology, offered the most efficient and cost-effective approach.
IMPREGLiners are custom-manufactured and delivered to the construction site installation-ready, enabling immediate deployment.
The first DN 1500 IMPREGLiner, measuring 265 meters in length with a wall thickness of 15.5 mm and weighing 35.5 tons, posed a significant logistical challenge. Thanks to the use of a conveyor belt, an installation aid, and a 20-ton Bagela winch, the liner was successfully installed directly from the heavy-duty transporter.
The second DN 1500 liner, weighing 36.5 tons, had to be pulled through the previously rehabilitated section over a 500-meter stretch—another major challenge. A glide foil was used to facilitate this process, while also protecting the existing liner from damage. The two liners were ultimately connected using an AMEX sleeve.
A Masterful Accomplishment
“The successful completion of this complex project within the specified timeframe is the result of our long-standing, trusted partnership with IMPREG, the exceptional quality of their liners, and the expertise of our on-site team,” said Gert-Jan Merkx, Managing Director of Kumpen NV Renovatietechnieken.
Alain Adloff, Sales Europe at IMPREG GmbH, who was present on-site, added: “This project showcases true teamwork and outstanding performance from everyone involved. Our production teams had never before manufactured liners of this weight.”
