600mm of Silt Removed to Protect Flow and Prevent Flooding
Project Scope
The project involved the cleansing of a culvert that had become heavily restricted due to significant silt accumulation, with depths of up to 600mm recorded along its length. This build-up posed risks to hydraulic performance and increased the likelihood of blockages and flooding. Our team was engaged to restore the culvert’s operational capacity, maintain effective flow, and ensure environmental protection measures were in place throughout the works.
Challenges
- Heavy silt deposits restricting capacity and function
- Need to manage water quality and prevent downstream pollution
- Requirement to complete the works while safeguarding the surrounding environment
Solution
A Jetvac Recycler was deployed to thoroughly cleanse the culvert and remove the silt build-up. To manage water quality and flow during operations, stanks were installed at the inlet, while silt mitigation controls were implemented at the outlet to protect the receiving watercourse. This approach ensured both effective cleansing and robust environmental protection.
Outcome
- Restored full functionality of the culvert
- Reduced risk of blockages and flooding
- Protected the local watercourse through proactive silt management
- Delivered a long-term improvement in infrastructure performance
