The United Kingdom Society for Trenchless Technology (UKSTT) is set to host its highly anticipated 2nd National Trenchless Conference on 4th February 2025. This pivotal event, themed “Think Trenchless First”, will bring together industry leaders, experts, and innovators to explore the latest advancements in trenchless technology and its crucial role in shaping the future of underground infrastructure.
Building upon the resounding success of the inaugural conference and subsequent discussions at No-Dig Live’s ‘Breakfast Briefings’, the 2025 gathering promises to be a landmark occasion. It will serve as a platform to address key industry challenges, showcase cutting-edge solutions, and foster collaboration among professionals dedicated to revolutionising underground construction and rehabilitation techniques.
The conference will take place at the state-of-the-art Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry, providing an ideal backdrop for the exchange of ideas and networking opportunities. Session 1: Trenchless – demonstrating the benefits
The opening session of the conference will focus on showcasing the myriad advantages of trenchless methods in underground infrastructure projects. Chaired by Dawn Greig, Senior Director at Picote Solutions, this segment will provide a comprehensive overview of the topic and feature presentations from esteemed industry figures.
Keynote Address: The Global Perspective
Dec Downey, President of the International Society for Trenchless Technology (ISTT), will deliver a keynote address highlighting the benefits of trenchless technologies.
Quantifying the Impact: The All Consequences Calculator
Professor Chris Rogers from the University of Birmingham will present an update on the groundbreaking “All Consequences Calculator”. This powerful tool enables stakeholders to quantify the full range of impacts associated with different construction methods, providing a data-driven approach to decision-making in infrastructure projects.
Industry Insights: Real-world Applications and Success Stories
The session will conclude with a panel discussion for all to share their experiences, and the tangible benefits realised through the adoption of trenchless methods.

Water Industry Perspective: Guidance and Risk Management
Paul Horton, CEO of Future Water, will present an overview of the Water Industry Guidance Note on standards and introduce the Future Water Risk Register. This presentation will highlight the importance of sector-specific guidelines and risk assessment tools in ensuring the safe and effective implementation of trenchless technologies.

Progress on Apprenticeships
Dave Rambridge from the National Association of Drainage Contractors (NADC) will present an update on the development of apprenticeship programmes tailored to the trenchless technology sector. Contractor’s View:
Frank Sweeney from the Clancy Group will offer a contractor’s perspective on raising awareness of trenchless options. This segment will explore strategies for educating clients, engineers, and other stakeholders about the capabilities and advantages of trenchless technologies.
